Consulting the Deck

Posted in: Magic by POHA on June 19, 2008

Inspired by my dearest AmberLotus, I am sharing with you a tarot reading I’m doing for myself this evening.

All interpretations come from here:

Tarot A New Handbook for the Apprentice

The version I have was my grandmother’s book, printed in 1979.

The cards I’m using are these:

Rider Waite Deck

And I’m getting these images from this website. (Thank you.)

Beautiful. There is thunder rumbling in the background. A candle is burning.

The question is: What does the future hold?

Card 1: Monday = The Past
3 of Pentacles

3 of pentacles

Well informed, you have great skill, ability and talent.
You can make great progress now, using skills and your know how.
Guidelines: Recognition or award for talent, ability, etc. Indication of activities within an organization or fraternity. Efforts will be finally rewarded; some monetary recognition.

My thoughts: My stability now is due to my diligence and hard work.  Past hard work is paying off.

Card 2: Tuesday = The Present
The Hermit, Reversed

The Hermit

Too much resistance, objection. A refusal to accept or listen to good counsel. Don’t let ego stand between you and good sense.
Swallow pride, why don’t you ask? Halve the problem, halve the task.
Guidelines: Need to stop present activity, take time to plan carefully before going ahead. Lack of communication. Trying to cut yourself off from others. A feeling of isolation, no one seems to care. Change your attitude and things will look better.

My thoughts: I *have* felt cut off.  Lonely. I need to follow my instinct.

Card 3: Wednesday = Hidden Influences
2 of Pentacles Reversed

2 of pentacles

Doubtful if plans will run smoothly, a need for more organization.
Organize and change your view; don’t give up, it’s up to you.
Disorganization is causing difficulty; you need to think of new ways. Don’t be disheartened because things are not going your way. It will straighten out. You may receive discouraging news or information, but keep on trying.

My thoughts: I need to un-clutter.  Keep an open mind. Keep my nose clean.

Card 4: Thursday = Obstacles/ Areas of Conflict
6 of Pentacles

6 of pentacles

Happy atmosphere; about to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Fruits of labor now enjoy, they could result from your employ.
Guidelines: Good things happening; possible promotion, profit-sharing opportunity, or maybe a bonus. Don’t worry, you will receive what is rightfully yours. Bread thrown on the water of life will come back threefold.

My thoughts: Work hard, play when?  If I don’t enjoy myself, I could burn out.

Card 5: Friday = The Environment/ Outside Influences
The Fool

The Fool

You are now at the crossroads; the decision you make can be important, think carefully.
You have the power to use your will; choose with wisdom, be soul-still.
Guidelines: Past mistakes could be the best lesson; look before you leap. Any indiscretion at this time could spoil everything. The best swimmer in the world must know the depth before he makes his dive.

My thoughts: I need to be aware with my actions.  Not repeat the same mistakes.

Card 6: Saturday = What should be done
Page of Cups Reversed

Page of cups

You will be offered help, possibly by a young person or through his concern.
Hazel eyes could be blue; hair light to brown will comfort you.
Guidelines: Young boy, girl or child. Obstacles will soon be removed and you will see things in a new light. Lethargic, not much desire to plan ahead. Things are changing, don’t dwell on yesterday.

My thoughts: I need to allow my boyfriend to help me.  Not always try to do it alone.  Plan things out.  Not just let them happen.

Card 7: Sunday = Possible Outcome/ What to Look Out For
King of Wands Reversed

King of wands

A man inclined to be intolerant and strict in his manner. Could be opposing you.
Eyes of blue, hair red and fair; disagreement you can share.
Guidelines: Man in his maturity. Indication of a disagreement or dispute. Be the first to withdraw. You may feel uneasy through lack of tolerance in a business concern. Be sure that all the facts are correct; don’t allow anyone to be overly aggressive with you.

My thoughts: Some red-haired, blue-eyed guy’s going to be an ass.  I need to watch out for this guy. I don’t know anyone of this appearance.

  1. I don’t like tarot readings myself since I don’t like the fatalism it implies. I like to think of the future as unwritten and infinite, not predestined. However I did have a reading a while ago and it was hard to deny what it showed about my present. Nothing I wanted to hear mind, but it was brutal and true.

  2. See, for me… It doesn’t predict or _mean_ anything, really. It’s rather a tool that forces me to evaluate all possibilities, and it gives me something to think about.

I suppose it makes me a little more aware of my experience. Sometimes I get so caught up in the “What now?” of my life that I forget to observe all of the other pieces– the past, present, and possible futures.

I dislike fatalism, too. I don’t like thinking that there is only one path and it is the only What Is Meant To Be. Instead, I use trust and faith in my philosophy. I have faith in that I will make the best decisions, and if I don’t, I will learn from the not-best decisions and fix things, and I trust that all things have a purpose. not a pre-destined, God-given purpose, but in that all experience is my tool for this lifetime. All experience is something I can find value within.

  3. I have always been intrigued by tarot and the symbols it carries. I have long wanted to take a reading but don’t know who to approach.hmmmmmmmm
Well, i can’t say i dislike fatalism. Perhaps i am more influenced by the philosophy hailing from a religion taht supports it-not altogether-but kind of. Prayers can move mountains, yes, but there’s something called destiny and you can’t change it.

  4. Don’t you just love when these things are dead-on? That hermit card gave me the willies! I’m glad you decided to do a reading, though. How did you feel afterwards?

  5. AmberLotus,
I went through and put my thoughts down, my own interpretation.

How did I feel? Comfortable. Like I’m doing what I need to.
