There’s something special about women.

Posted in: Life, PMS, Self Awareness by POHA on September 9, 2006

For you gentleman with queasy stomaches, you may not want to read any further… but that would just further serve my point here. There is something absolutely amazing about women.  If you haven’t already figured it out, I am going to tell you exactly why we are perhaps the most amazing and divine creatures on this planet.  And not just human women, though I’m going to use us as the primary context because we have yet to understand the depth of other animal’s emotions and their comprehension of their menstrual cycle.

First of all, I’ll point out the obvious.  We bleed, once a month, generally a lot more than what you would expect from an average wound or abrasion.  The bleeding lasts for days– some women are blessed with something short, like two days; other, less fortunate ladies experience this outpouring for several days, sometimes more than a week.  It takes an amazing human being to deal with this amount of blood, and often we do it without men even knowing the most dramatic details of it. Why?  Because we have to.  We must.  Some little girls start having to deal with the trauma of blood coming from between their legs from very, very young ages.  While you little boys are still worrying about G.I. Joes and and learning to play your first baseball games, we’re worrying about why are little nubs are sore and why it hurts to sit up and why there’s blood coming from our privates.  Yes, you little boys have very little clue.  Some ladies don’t have to worry about this cycle until they’re a little older (lucky bitches)! Perhaps it’s somewhat average to begin the madness at around fourteen or so.  That average age is slowly becoming younger and younger.   Regardless of when it first starts, we are generally young, and there are usually a plethora of other major things we are also trying to deal with.  High school, other girls, BOYS, our extra-curricular activities, our parents, our self-image, our identities… and we get to deal with all of these fabulous drama-inducing businesses along with the happy addition of raging goddamn hormones.  Plus, did I mention that we’re bleeding profusely from between our legs??Being a woman with a menstrual cycle automatically moves us up several notches on the toleration of bloody messes scale.  I’m going to guess that most of you men probably have never experienced the Bloody Mess business, but I can assure you every woman beyond that blessed age knows exactly what I mean.  It’s not pretty, it’s sometimes scary, and it’s NEVER fun!  This qualifies us as perhaps the most emotionally strong, trauma-exposed human beings there could be.  Yes, men have generally been the ones who must go fight our battles for us, and have always been the ones on our front lines.  I won’t undervalue those brave men for doing that.  However, women deal with bloody battle lines every month, in war AND peace, and have been doing this as long as the existence of mankind.  (And to ensure the existence of mankind) We also have the blessing of child birth, which I cannot begin to explain because I’ve never gone there, but I’ve heard it’s pretty painful and… pretty bloody and messy.  So the point I’m getting at here, friends, is that women are extraordinary and phenomenal creatures who deal with a lot of shit  (well, blood).  We are amazing and divine and most of us deal with it regularly without even mentioning it– because it’s traumatic and gross to the men creatures.  We don’t tell the men about it because we know you don’t want to hear it, and for the most obvious reason… because we’re supposed to be ladies! If you haven’t appreciated a woman yet today, I encourage you to do so.  If you’re a woman and you haven’t reminded yourself today about how extraordinary you are, please remember this now.  There’s something special about women, and now we all know it.
