Hi!
I have some good news!
I am now a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. This happened last week! I can add this to my list of other honors (pardon me while I toot my horn…) I have been on the Vice President’s Honor Roll twice… and I’m also a member of the Psychology honor society Psy Chi. (yay!) So, now I have one more thing to add to my record. Yay!!! It’s all about adding these things up to increase my value to an admission committee so I can get into medical school.
So… here’s one more thing: I was invited by my behavioral neuroscience teacher to help him with some research. I am going to do it!!! In my copious free time, you ask? Well, here’s the thing. I know already that four classes was too many to take this semester… so I know that I’m going to have to cut back on my classes. Being full time is great because I can get through the classes I need to get my degree (seems like it will take foooorever because I’m already a senior and nowhere near my degree and pre-reqs…); however, in between all the rest of the stuff I’m doing, it’s a lot to be working full time, commuting from west Lakewood to Aurora every day, then going to class at night, every night. Add having a “new” family at home into the equation. Add having to take care of a home in there, too. Add the need for a social life sometimes… it’s a lot. I eat, breathe, and sleep school… I do homework in every free minute I get– on the bus, during my lunch break, on the bus back home again, all day both days on the weekend… anyway, the point is that four classes is too much. I keep trying to get in this big hurry to graduate so that I can get into medical school. Unfortunately, spreading myself this thin will inevitably lead to burn out, probably taking up just as much of my time lolling around high and drunk trying to work out the fact that all work and no play makes Ash a crazed lunatic. So, that being said, I’m only taking two classes next semester. At least, that’s what I’m considering doing. Then I can have ample time for myself, as well as time to help with some research. It would absolutely benefit me to have my name on research prior to applying. I’m already helping my doctor with some research at work– at least helping him with getting it published, which means he’s going to allow me to have my name on it. So that’s good… but to actually go through the experience of actually doing the research sounds brilliant!!! It sounds totally fun! It’s in a class that I can’t get enough of. Hell, if I wasn’t taking so many other classes now, I’d be doing even more in the class… but… I’m full as it is.
So, that’s the plan. At least for now. I really need to talk with a guidance counselor!!! eeeeee!!!!
